Trocar is only $35, but the shipping is at least 20.

I haven't got around to it yet (and I have had a couple years to do so. :( ) but if I could get a feel for the size of one of these, I think one might be able to piece together a hardware Trocar build that would look ok. Not saying it would be accurate, just sayin' it might be ok for someone on a budget.

Maybe something like some PVC pipe, or a coupling, for the larger part near the top. A couple different sized hemispheric domes from Plastruct, or buttons from Joe-Ann's fabric) for the top and bottom parts, and maybe one of those ribbed straws for a sippy/travel cup. (or other ridged tube) Maybe a modified ABS step-down coupling for the con part between the head, and stem. etc. etc. etc. I would have to do some scaling of the real thing, to better know what size parts I would need, but I'm just putting the idea out there. (if I ever do make one, I will of course share how I did it, but I doubt I'll do it any time soon.)

I know, I know, there are those that say "if you know what the real part is, why would you settle for less?" But not everyone has the money, and/or if you have a con coming up, and can't find the real deal for sale, you have to make do.

Just sayin'

Given our new age of scanners and 3D printing, I can't imagine it would be that hard to make one, especially if someone here already had one and could supply pics/measurements.
May have been on the losin' side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

if anyone is doing the EMS costume, you might on to jump on this RIGHT NOW! http://www.ebay.com/itm/151405952169?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
this one above it the 20mm and I thought it was too big, but I couldnt pass up the price when I offered them $5 they took it. I got it today and put it in my vest, here is a side by side comparison with mine and Jaynes. I think they look the same.
there is also a 15mm in Ebay to.. I was about to buy that, but I think I am happy with the 20mm
the 15mm is here (at least that what it appears to be in the picture they posted) http://www.ebay.com/itm/FPK02-Ethicon-F ... 2338c0318f
I have not see the 15mm in person so I dont know the size difference.
I've been searching for these things for a very long time. I can believe I found one.
I dont know the seller or anything, just sharing

I think it is great that you found one
and also cool that you are helping anyone else looking for this hard-to-find item!

I am super excited I found one! been looking since we id it!
the 20mm is listed at $10 with $7 shipping.. I offered $5 and they accepted
the 15mm is listed at $20 with $7 shipping... I offered $5 they counted offered with $10, but since I ended up being happy with the 20mm I just let the 15mm go.

now I just need to find the jumpsuit at a decent price and my size.. I really dont want to pay the $100 for it yet. I find MED sizes around the $30 mark.. holding out for a XL around that price. at least for now.
