Inara's Pistol

Episode 11 - Trash

Inara's Pistol

Postby pennausamike » Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:43 am

Just a couple of pics of the one I did.
I'll have to photograph the Ruger airsoft box to help those looking for one.
I remember that the silver ones were out of production,
so I got it from a Japanese or Hong Kong online store.

I'd do a couple of things differently this time, mostly in the attachment of the red LED thingie.
The aluminum pieces are all drilled and tapped;
both into each other and into the receiver of the pistol.
I think next time I'd pin-and-glue the three outer pieces.
The airsoft is chrome plated plastic.
The "compensator/silencer" is solid aluminum.
I sanded the chrome off the tip of the barrel in front of the sight,
then made the ID of the compensator a press fit.
I used epoxy to attach it because the press is only acting on about an 1/8th of an inch of length of the barrel OD;
not enough for handling.

Nice job, lots of work there.

Does the red LED light up?

Thanks!
But no, I didn't bother to make the LED light-up.
At some point it'll be in a display case.

Here is a pic of the original box;
a Marushin Mk.I Ruger

The red LED lights on the original. I think you can just see it's lit, even in daylight in the episode. Could be an illusion from reflected light though.

The original bolt on piece contains a small battery and a red LED.

Posting from the train on my phone. That is the same airsoft i have on the way. There doesn't seem to be any mk2 airsofts. Should have it late next week as long as customs doesn't give me a bunch of grief. (They get iffy with certain types of gas pistols die to clumsy wording of the laws here, but this one should be ok.

I'm sure I saw a MK2 airsoft somewhere.

I'll see if I can find the link again.

It's possible I lost in my last hard drive crash......

I've checked with most of the big retailers in hong kong and the ruger is becoming scarce. Didn't see any mk2s at all and only one place had the silver mk1 in stock. If there is a mk2 airsoft it was either discontinued a long time ago or sold very restrictively. I think there was one reference to a mk2, but as a black bull barrel version.

I wonder how close to a Ruger MK2 barrel an airsoft Artillery LUGER barrel would be....

There's a pretty easy graft point at the barrel base if it was close. Replace the Luger front sight with the Ruger.

Just sayin' is all.........

Going by the screencaps in the first post, I think the standard length barrel looks correct for a prop replica.
I re-watched "Trash" last night and Inara's pistol didn't look like a six inch-plus barrel version.
Things don't always look the same in real life as they do on TV,
but I'm comfortable with the Ruger with the (I think) 4" barrel as representing Inara's pistol.
At least, I've never been disatisfied with mine.
