This was a tough one.
It took an age to find and acquire this prop. I've been looking for it for a long time. I really like this prop.

When I did find it (by the rental records), it was a live firing pistol in a rack of other guns in a Hollywood armoury. The bolt on Sc-fi parts were missing.
I eventually tracked them down at the place which had sold the pistol to the armoury, in the desk drawer of the guy who'd stripped it down for re-sale. They weren't even labelled.

I did a deal for the parts, after getting the guy to get the red LED working again, then applied for an export license for the firing piece from the State Department.

The paperwork alone took 9 months.

The piece is being legally deactivated right now by a movie armourer here in the UK. It'll the go to the proofing house to be certified as a legal non-gun.

Should be done very soon!

That's amazing and exactly what I'm talking about!
I can't get over how long the machined pieces on the side are.
The angle on the show compresses everything.

Proportionately, I'm satisfied with the pieces I made,
but I think I might be tempted to change the riser to round
and add the slash to the back of the top piece.
One of the other builders went with a round riser,
but I thought that looked less "realistic" than the rectangular piece I made.
The key now, is to only let people see the episode and not clue them into the archive!

Seriously, what a wonderful piece of detective work.
And a major addition to the collection in the sense that this is the only weapon linked to Inara.
Nice score, Badger!

Any chance of someone machining parts? I would love to get the little scope/LED piece.

Yeah, it was a tough one.
It's what I was talking about when I mentioned the long game. It takes real patience.

I'll post pics in the archive when I get the piece back from the proof house. I was going to wait and announce the acquisition, but the time seemed right.

I still think a Luger barrel, grafted on to a Ruger Mk1 might do it.

Cheers,

Wow, that looks like the 'Enterprise E' of Inara pistols. All long and fast-lookin'.

It is suprisingly long and slender in person.

I agree your proportions were right for the shorter barrel version.

One day, it'll be in a permanent display opposite the Lassetter.

Base gun is the same as Mike's, greeblies by Sidewinder. So was there ever an airsoft reproduction of the long-barrel in silver?
