whatever it is, there's a million variants of that... thing!
They all look very close to what we see on the prop though, so I'd say well spotted, namebrand :)

It's a "flashing wand", it has multiple speed modes though, which doesn't quite fit Badger's description. Very similar though!

I think I have tracked down the model of hard drive that the PCB is from. Just waiting on pics to confirm it.

The PCB is from a Quantum Firebal Plus LM.
Didn't I post that above Badgers pictures?

Here's a pic of the HDD

LOL, so you did. I missed that in my excitement to look at the photos. ;)

Yep, that's the same HDD I found. Was waiting on photos of the board to confirm it but there you go!

Hadn't had a chance to check this thread till now.
Wow!!! Fantastic pics! I can see all kinds of stuff now that I just couldn't see with those pics in the Companion book.
Looks like I was way off in the thickness dimensions!

I really have to tip my hat to people who can identify weird electronic components. That's a pretty unique skill.

We had limited space in the Companion Books, so often only one picture of a given prop was selected for print.

This is an interesting piece. It is deliberately designed to look cobbled together. It is in fact very carefully and quiet sturdily constructed.

It was one of the first pieces in the collection.

I was delighted when the Lasseter joined it years later, and I was over the moon when I finally managed to acquire Inara's pistol. All three from one of the very best episodes.

Badger, thanks again for the extra pics, they are invaluable!

So we have the PCB and something pretty dang close for the laser pointer/flashing wand thing. Lets see if we can nail down the calculator? I've found some that are similar, but not the specific scientific calculator yet.

Also, the clamps holding on the orange rod on should be easily found (especially if there's a number on them, which there appears to be). They look like padded clamps with the rubber removed, I am guessing about 3/8-1/2".

The battery pack could be more tricky with only the letters "BL" visible.
Similar batteries...some look to be the same cell size, but too many cells.

The case looks to be some sort of metal (aluminum) case, which is quite an odd shape...might be beyond finding, but a nice replica could probably be sculpted and cast. ;)

The case really shouldn't be to hard to make.
Anyone up for the task?

I suck at scratch building :D
