Inara's teapot

Postby gman666 » Sun Oct 14, 2012 9:16 pm

Got a question about the tetsubin teapot. Does anyone know if the brass/gold color was the original color? I can find matches but they are in every color but that.

Thanks!

It was a standard blackened cast iron teapot,
spraypainted gold :)

That is what I was hoping. I was about to go nuts trying to find this color.

Thanks!

I found one at one of those mall tea shops like Teavana. The ones I looked at had a slightly different lid, but they had another teapot with the correct one.

Depending on how much you plan on misbehaving, you could buy both or *cough*swapthelids*cough*

Edit to add Teavana's teapot selection
http://www.teavana.com/tea-products/tea ... on-teapots

And 'Nara's pot can be seen in the visual companion.

Be told, these pots are pretty pricey. Around the 130USD range and made by a company called Tetsubin. The patterns on the outside are symbolic and 'Nara's is called hobnail which symbolises strength. Dunno if Joss & Co picked it for that specific reason, but it's a nice touch.

May have been on the losin' side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Many people have written to me saying the correct lid is hard to find.

Find the right lid, mould it, cast some out in cast iron resin (yes, it will even rust!) and spraypaint the new lid with the old teapot.
Good for display, right?

It's been a while since I really looked at the correct lid, but as I recall, the Tetsubin hobnail pots come in two slightly different shapes. One is round and kinda deep while the other one has a more eliptical and slightly shallower shape. The screen accurate pot comes with the incorrect lid while the shallower one comes with the correct one. The lids are the same size, however.

Heck, given how socially pretentious people throw money around at these places, it's entirely possible you could swap the lids without most of them noticing.

Not, uh... not that I'm advocating such roguish behaviour, you understand.
