Kaylee's Prairie Harpy Dress and Necklace

Episode 12 - The Message

Kaylee's Prairie Harpy Dress and Necklace

Postby KayleeFryeMech » Sun Jun 30, 2013 4:53 pm

The Dress looks like it was created for the show. It has a square neckline, circle sleeves that go into the princess seams of the bodice,
a gathered skirt, and a belt made of the same fabric.

Image

The fabric looks to be a kimono type fabric, and Dianne at DianneTheGeek.Com was able to find a very close match - "Flowers on Waves" in green from Fabric Tales. This fabric runs at $27/yd and is only 24" wide - so a dress will take about 4-5 yards.

McCall's has just recently (this season) put out a pattern from Laura Ashley that is VERY close to the style of the prairie harpy dress. It has the circle sleeves sewn into the princess seams. With some modifications it can be used as a great base. One would have to alter the neckline and separate the bodice and skirt pieces.

The necklace is a wood and bone pendant necklace. The design of the pendant almost looks like a dragon on the inside.

Image

I was fortunate enough to find a seller on Etsy who was able to track down the pendant.

Her boots have yet to be identified, but they're an off white or white boot with a low wooden heel and possibly tassles on the side?

So there you have it - Kaylee's Prairie Harpy Dress from "The Message" - the necklace is different in "Out of Gas"

^_^ I do what I can!

I'm so glad there's a decent pattern available for this dress! I drafted my own pattern and trying to figure out how the sleeves worked was not the most fun I've ever had. :)

Oooooohhhh, I LOVE kimono crepe! I just love it. I love that dress, too. When I saw it in "Out of Gas" I thought it was rayon. LOL.

It is most definitely rayon and very thin! I had to line the dress in muslin as not to show off my naughty bits! LOL!

Btw, this dress is so much fun and one you don't see that often on the cosplay circuit (Well that and fluffy - but I've seen more fluffy dresses)
