Gally table items

Postby ssdesigner » Fri Aug 15, 2014 11:48 am

We all know about the rice cooker lamps, but I hadn't seen this little metal tin discussed here yet. Seen next to the lamp in this shot:

It has been mentioned a few times plus folks have found & sold em on here. They come in different sizes too IIRC.

Haven't had a tin thread in years! I love mine. neat little item. It's good that it's be resurrected since we have so many new members. I'm sure many will be excited about it.

There's a "big" and a "small" version of the same tin, as the auction I won came with both. You want the bigger of the two.

Yeah, I'm not sure where the windmill tin threads are hiding.
But I agree; like auction notices, necroposting is usually enjoyed rather than reviled on this board.
Shoot, sometimes I just sit and read through old threads,
just because some of the tangents are as interesting as the original topic.

... And as far as that picture goes, the green camping mug is still easily found, as I assume would be the green wine bottle and cork.

What I'm interested in is the blue place mat.

I bought one online and traded Keelhauler for another. GReat for storing props. All the playing cards and tokens from STAND are in one of them.

It's a cute tin! I wonder if they come in colors other than blue and green. Doesn't *pink* Delftware exist out there for it to be imitated in tin?

I have been guilty of buying things just to have the containers they came in. I have a display shelf in my kitchen full of things like that, as well as staples that once used to come in metal containers but are now sold in plastic ones. Nestle Quik chocolate mix--remember the yellow painted tin with the circular lid? With the kid holding the really big glass? Yeah, that's the one. I have it in metal. It comes in yellow plastic now--and that's got potential as a prop container, too--but that tin is going to stay with me. Hershey's Cocoa Powder no longer comes in a metal tin, or International Foods Coffees. It all comes in plastic now.

But I've always loved metal containers. What I want for my kitchen is the airplane galley cabinets you see on Serenity behind the range. If I recall correctly, airlines are phasing those out. When that happens, I suppose they'll go up for auction online and I can finally get some. Of course, to use them in my kitchen, I'd have to tear out a wall and a (rather badly retrofitted) pantry closet ... but hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

Now I'm all nostalgic for glass Gatorade bottles.

Can someone tell me the height of the correct tin without the lid on?
