Try using some transparent paint to stain the badge. Either Humbrol or Tamiya would work well.

Kurty... holy mother of god and all her wacky nephews! How did you get that perfect shine on that pistol? Even I never managed that. and I cast the darn thing.

Unfortunately I got it to such a shine at the expense of some detail. I sanded and polished it so much that it softened the edges a little.

I first used fine files to get rid of the rough edges then 400 grit followed by 800 grit wet n dry sandpaper I think. Then Peak which is a metal polish.

One of my favorite pieces in my collection - Joatrash's Metal Jubel Early Pistol:

And a screencap just for fun:

I decided against bending the wire on mine to make it screen accurate, though...

The wire part is still bent on the original.

I was thrilled when I first saw it at the prop rental shop with the bend in it

If we ever do a Jubal Early, we'll have a bent bit. Maybe a straight bit too for the 'factory fresh' crowd.

Well Jubel was a little bent himself.

So what IS the correct spelling of Jubel/Jubal's name?

Joatrash says it's Jubel, but the more common spelling is Jubal.

According to Wikipedia, "he shares his name with the Confederate Civil War General Jubal Anderson Early, who is an ancestor of Nathan Fillion".

Jubal is correct.

I used to spell it "Jubal" then switched. I THINK it was the companion that had it with an "e" but Badger has said more than once that the editing in those books missed a lot of details.

Joe's right.

However, since we know the character was named after a Civil War military man related to Nathan, and his name was spelled 'Jubal'.......
I'm going with that :D

The prop section of the board was looking a little lonely,
so I'll spam it with my already posted projects from my Firefly Weapons thread
http://fireflydvd.com/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... sc&start=0

Jubal Early's stylistic but functionally impossible pistol.
Although considered iconic Firefly by many fans, this pistol's lack of sights, magazine or any discernible operating system
keeps me from being able to get too excited about it as a display piece.
I would agree that it looked the part in the episode but, Jubal Early's pistol just doesn't stand up to studied observation.

The first one I made:

Image

I bought the pair of these off eBay and they were stated to be cast off screen-used.
I suppose that's possible, because the lower rod was bent like in the show.

I sold the first one for $125 plus shipping.
A while later I saw it for sale on theRPF for less than half that.
I guess the purchaser didn't remember what he paid and didn't feel it was worth much.

And in this picture, the completed first one, which had an aluminum barrel,
along with the second one that I replaced the aluminum with brass,
and kept for my collection.

Image

The brass barreled Jubal Early pistol.

Image

This was originally a Harley Davidson knife box, with the Harley logo etc etched on the glass.

Image

I replaced the glass with plexiglas.
That was REALLY a pain to do, because the glass is glued to the frame and acts as part of the lid's structure.
I had to break the glass out and rebuild the lid.
I have one of these for my YoSafBridge pistol, and the wood warped without the glass holding it in place.
Sigh....
Still, I like the overall look.

Image

A Mal pistol will fit in one of these.
I did finally stain the gun supports in mahogany and polyurethane them.
