Dobson's Cortex device

Postby dsears30 » Fri Dec 18, 2015 7:46 am

I built Dobson’s Cortex Reader last summer, but it got kind of roughed up. Plus I want to make another one (better). The Franklin apart arrived and started working on it, plus repairing and updating the older one.
To build one you need the following items
Fellowes Type N Go Keyboard and Bumper Case
Franklin Rolodex Personal Touch Digital Assistant RF-8110

Okay finished the updating of my older one. New screen, some dermal work, refitting the parts, new paint, and now it fit’s a lot better, the device now closes. But unlike Dobson’s, mine works (It never fails to connect).

By the way, what is it, actually? I mean, it's like a digital Franklin-Covey personal assistant thingy, right? But never having owned one, I'm not sure how it works and all. What are the buttons other than the QWERTY keyboard for?

IIRC, it's a PDA or digital Rolodex or something.

Here are the replica screen graphics I made a few years ago:

Fellowes Type N Go Keyboard and Bumper Case
Franklin Rolodex Personal Touch Digital Assistant RF-8110
This is a picture of the first one, just use the better pictures which Mike J listed, they are perfect.
To make it fit you have to grind down some of the inner top section

Impressive. My guess, with the Blue Sun Logo, you must be an employee.

I keep forgetting I donated mine to the Browncoat Ball we hosted a few years back. I need to make me a new one.

The Blue Sun was to cover the logo on the part. Later I sanded and just painted the whole thing, plus added a better screen shot to the picture

Excellent done work!

There is one thing to say about the Blue Sun logo on it, it made it unique. I understand wanting to make a replicate of the one seen in the series, as it is recognized, for me, I would go with making it mine, if I did one.

Did you glue the bottom slide piece in it's popped out position? Is that the way it was on the real prop?
