No, they are absolutely NOT. Customers, yes... and if they don't get what they paid for, they may have some form of claim but shareholders they are not unless there's a contract somewhere that said as much when said items were purchased. That's the problem with these kinds of passion-projects- fans get so attached they feel a sense of entitlement to the products.

It would be courteous and nice to give something other than silence, sure. But there are lots of possible reasons as to why such a statement might not be possible, some of them legal.

In a sense, meaning the consumer received a stimuli originating from a outside source. This source led them to believe they were investing in the future of the game. In a sense, helping to fund it through their purchases. Then in return, they would be rewarded with loot. Loot only they would receive. Much like the way Con-Man was funded on Indiegogo. Much like the Browncoats independents war was funded. By fans who then were rewarded by receiving it on DVD. By the way, what ever happened to the movie? I saw something with the makers of the movie at a con man and then nothing.
