I need help with making an accurate Liberty Hammer/Oil Can

Postby Mr.Universe » Tue May 09, 2017 3:28 am

Hi!

I'm working on a 3D model of Mal's pistol made. Does anyone have measurements of Badgers 47/47A? Or the hero pistol? I've tried making a template and a 3D model using pictures or my crappy Qmx pistol, but that didn't work too well. I need help from someone more experienced than I. If that's not the way to go please point me in the right direction.

Thanks - Zach

Another nickname, just as unofficial as all the others.
Liberty Hammer, Moses Bros. Defense Engine, Model 47; all are post show creations.

There's a good archive here: http://wildzero.de/Firefly/guns/

But the single greatest thing I've ever seen for prop reference is here:

I've never seen who the credit belongs to for the first link, but the second is a result of cbacton on the RPF, who I'm sure is around here as well but I can't say for sure.

Good luck, and share progress.

Does anyone know how to get that curved handle correct? That's what I'm having the most trouble with

It definitely is the most challenging component, geometrically.

I used a loft cut to do mine, definitely not fine tuned but if I have spent more time on it, it may have looked better. As it is, it's a defining feature on my model, and I can spot if someone has used my files.

Yep, I used a loft too. I created the loft first, extending it beyond the 2 trimmed ends. Then I cut the bevel on the bottom and the profile around the brass piece.

Are you going to use wood or a synthetic material for the grips?

thanks for the replies! I meant the profile of the handle, that's the curve that I was talking about.
