My Mule Prop Replica

Postby PaddyDelmar » Tue Oct 03, 2017 6:56 am

After searching for about a year for an affordable, inoperable, Polaris Sportsman (1999-2001) I found out these are a very popular and therefore expensive item (even with a blown engine) so I created my own Mule to as close the specs as possible.

I took 3 months of weekends and a month of every evening for a few hours and still a week of 'up till 3am'.
I found this ’93 Kawasaki ATV on line for 185$. I tore it down to the frame. Cleaning EVERYTHING, then painting it. (that was the easy part). I didn’t want to spend much on this so I could not afford the 150$ EACH for panels, fenders, headlight pod, racks, foot wells and fenders from the USED store; so I had to build them.
Having removed all the parts that would have any form of fluid in them I started reassembling it. Those parts, like the axles and the shocks I drained the fluid and carefully used solvent to clean them completely.
Then I started welding and grinding, and creating the back rack, the front rack, the bumper and the push bar to the best of my ability following the (limited) available images on-line.
Then I started creating the final product with Home Depot and paint and guile.
Although my end product ended up not being used by our local Browncoats group at Salt Lake ComicCon I do hope you enjoy it. I would say these are rare to find but having not found a replica yet, well, could it be the only one?
