Props So Nice They Had To Show Them Twice. Or more.

Green 'Picnic Basket' Tin

The green picnic basket tin appears in several episodes. It can be seen clearly in this last seen of War Stories.

There are different versions of them, but it's most likely one like this...

I found it in several shots from 'Out of Gas'. It's most definitely tin. As the camera pans across it in two scenes the light reflects off the smooth, painted surface and all of the edges are weathered.

I actually noticed it years ago, but didn't think much of it beyond 'green picnic basket' . After identifying the crock plate, I did cursory look for green picnic baskets and the 'tin' popped up, which was intriguing enough that I chased it. I'm also pretty sure that my maternal grandmother had one in her kitchen because the tin seems so familiar outside of Firefly.

They do have many antiques on a ship that is supposed to be from our future.

I have thought about printing pictures of the props seen on Serenity, and take them to a flea market/ thrift store, when I go.
Mind you, I said THOUGH about it, remembering to do it.....

AZSneed--that would be a fun project, wouldn't it? The second I read your comment, I thought:
1. go to Michael's/chain hobby store
2. get an inexpensive plastic/vinyl 4 x 6 photo album--heck get several to divide the treasure hunt into categories: hardware, galleyware, furnishing, clothes, misc. props ...
3. Get pics or screen caps, a potential rabbithole for me--Yikes!
4. Crop to 4 x 6, load the albums
5 Shop

And to think ... I've a coupon for AC Moore and Michaels and JoAnn burning a hole in my pocket ...

...and in the other pocket, a fire extinguisher!

It would be harder to carry, but having 8 x 10 pictures would be better for details, unless you just pick a cropped section to rely on to identify the prop, then 4 x 6 will do.

Not sure why, but after seeing this, I needed one. So got one off ebay and it will go on my microwave like theirs did.
