Book's Bible

Postby Yellowjacket » Wed Jan 06, 2010 5:22 pm

We see it all of the time, and he carries it everywhere, but what version is it? King James, New World Translation, English Standard, Good News, Living, New American...? Is it traditional or a pastor's bible? Is it chronological or parallel?

I know that it has center column footnotes and that it has been revised by River, but what kind is it?

The bible is a featured prop in FFOC book 3.
All your questions are answered there :D

Thank the bible's owner for the unfettered access and excellent pictures.

Well, since William has brought the topic up for discussion and we have the new companion book coming out soon with pictures and details about the Bible, I guess now is a good time to let everyone know that I am the owner of Shepherd Book's Bible. And, before anyone gets too excited, let me say that while I’d very much like to share pictures and details with you, it will have to wait until after the new companion book is released. I hope you all understand.

Book’s Bible isn’t a prop that I recall seeing discussed anywhere. Probably because it’s not a flashy pistol or a cool message recorder or something like that. Rather, it’s a quiet prop, for the most part, held lovingly or reflectively by Book at some point in almost every episode (I think it was in all but one, but I’m not totally sure) and often appearing only in passing in the background. Accept, of course, when River tries to “fix” it in Jaynestown! That was definitely the Bible’s moment of fame in the series!

It is truly an amazing piece to see in person, with all the ripped pages and all the markings from River, as well as to hold, knowing its unique place in the Firefly ‘verse. Naturally, it is the prize piece in my collection and I feel extremely fortunate to be its current steward.

I am thrilled the Bible is going to be included in the new companion volume and I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to Badger for making it happen - thank you!!

Cheers,

Sean

That's one hell of a sweet screen used prop to own!

I still haven't been able to find the exact variant of the bible used so I'm still looking. In the mean time I bought one that was close enough and modified it a little.

I really would like to 'fix' it one day, River style :)

Really nice job, Kurtyboy!

There are nice pics of the Bible in the book.

I would ask that no one ask for any further information about it, or other props which are featured, for now as all contributors are bound by a non-disclosure agreement from the publisher.

It won't be long now :D

The reason he edited his post was to avoid upsetting Titan by putting out spoilers before publication.

If you guys are going to do this could you please do it via email or PM?

Asking for the removed information and posting it back on the public board kind of defeats the object.

Cheers,
