New Prop

Postby pennausamike » Sat Oct 04, 2014 4:44 am

I just bought something for my Firefly Collection/Fool Me Twice set dressing/maybe even real life.
It is 40"X23"X15".
This will be a quick turn around project, (yeah, I know, I say that all the time)
and I'll post before and after pics; hopefully in a week or less.
Think, Alliance.

And by way of a clue, it just perfectly fit in the Cadillac trunk.

"Whud'ja order a dead body for?"

So, I'm guessin' you didn't get the "coffin" Tracy shipped himself in?

(As for the actual container used for Tracy's coffin in the show, I'm thinking it's probably a professional case for a boom mike. I suspect a lot of really cool looking cargo containers used on-screen are the specialized cases the film and tech crew transport their expensive gear in.)

So, what I got was something I thought might just need cleaned up,

Image

as the inside looked sorta long-term storage dirty

Image

but, unfortunately, it is permanently stained, not just dirty.

Overall, the huge old dome-top steamer trunk is in really good shape,
and it has the laundry bag seen above, and an ironing board and hangers,

Image

and quite a bit of drawer space

Image

Image

so I cleaned it out really well and I am storing a bunch of the collection in it.
Even tho' it isn't refurbished nice as I'd like, it is still really cool.

These things were the standard of luxury travel around the turn of the (previous) century,
and were designed to be what their name says; a wardrobe in your steamship stateroom.

Image

My trunk was owned by a single woman from Chicago, and she took it on a trip to Hawaii,
as the stickers on it show.

Image

My intention is to use this as my bad guy's trunk in Fool Me Twice,
as an indicator of how full of himself he is.

I was thinking I read somewhere (probably either firefly archives, here, or the RPF) that Tracy's coffin was a case for a canoe. However, the more I think about it, I'm pretty sure that was the ones they used in Ariel, so you may be righ about Tracy's coffin being an equipment case.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the "coffins" for the Ariel job were roof-top cargo carriers for cars. I see them frequently on vehicles where I live ... and I have to snicker as we drive by. Cuz, really, it's too funny.

Awesome, Mike! I have seen ones like it in many of movies and TV series from the 1930's to the 1950's. Retro is the look in the Verse...and in everyday now, too. Nothing EVER goes out of style.
