I've started a thread on Facebook that shows collectors where to buy all the coins seen in the series and I'm going to post a coin here each time I post it there. There are about 20 coins used in the series which can be had online as individual coins or in lots.

One of the most iconic is the Yuan Xiao Tou Min guo 2 year. It appears in the Firefly companion books and is one of the most common ones used in the show. It is sometimes called the 'fat emperor' and you can buy it in lots of 5 for around $10 or less. It's the best deal I've found for that coin. You can buy them individually, but they often cost $5 or more for one, so the lot gives you extras. If you get no other coins for your collection, this is the one to get.

Well, the red chop just happens to be on some of them. These are off of websites selling them, so some will have shop names.

'Ji Nian Bi'

The detail is not as good as the others (at least in most coins out there) and the tails side is definitely better than the heads side on most of them.

Next is the DaQung WuYuan, sometimes called the "Xuan Tong three years" or 'Double Dragon'. A very nice Verse feel on this one.

The 'Sun Zhong Shan' is one of my favorites and one of two with ships on the reverse side.

6 of them for $9.50

The next one is a bit of a departure, as it's an Indo-Chinese coin. It's the 1907 Piastre and you can find them on Ebay. It is one of the harder, more expensive coins to find on average. If you can find a cheap knock-off, just let us know.

The next one is the Kiang Nan Province coin. Now, you can find this same design on lots of Province coins, but this is specifically the 'Kiang Nan Province'. In fact, I don't have this one, so I found it just tonight while looking for prices.

2 for $4.50

I have never identified the name of this one, but I found it through an image search compared with the original. I have seen it called the 'Navy Marshall' more than once.

Here is 1 for $3.50

This one is the Qing Empress Dowager Da Qing Ci Xi. It's one of the poorest face coins, but it has a full dragon on the back.

The Yi Yuan Zhong Hua Min Guo, which is the other coin with a boat. It's one of the harder ones to find, but still easier than the Piastre.

1 for $5.85

This one is not Chinese. It's taken months to find it, but I finally found the Japanese Yen that matches the 1870s coin of the original. This is a replica copy that's a tiny bit off, but correct in all other ways and the only one I've found with the correct Kanji.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd ask my question anyway. For those who've printed out the various currencies what kind of paper did you use and what kind of printer settings did you use? I did a test run where I took the 10000 credit bill and through Windows Photo Viewer set it to print 2 5x7 images to a page. First side came out fine. I put the print back in so that I'd get the same image printed on the reverse. It printed correctly in that the backside of the bill was positioned top to bottom where it should be but they were shifted about an 1/16th of an inch left to right. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd love to make up a bunch of currency from the 'Verse for cosplay and display purposes. Any help is appreciated.

i used southworth "fine parchment paper". it says "24 lb, blue" on the box. i got it at walmart for fairly cheap.

i printed many, many copies of each denomination for use in my firefly RPG. i don't remember the exact settings, but i think i put 3 to a page and then did the same for the back on a separate page (the size is smaller than the show, but that's ok by me). i then took the front and back printouts to kinkos for each one and had them merge the front and back onto one page each, for many copies. they did some test runs on plain white paper to get the alignment right (and didn't charge me, thankfully), and then they just ran the batches through for each type. the end result was perfectly aligned front and back bills on my parchment paper. if you're doing the same at home, then just print low-quality grayscale on white paper until you get the alignment perfect, then switch to the good stuff. after that, it's a lot of cutting on the chopper thingies at kinkos. total cost for paper and copies was under a hundred bucks for a stack of bills roughly three inches thick.
