Mal Sid Kit on Ebay ( or how to bid up your own stuff)

Postby Fanfromthefirst » Fri Mar 24, 2017 2:54 am

A couple of weeks ago a Mal Sid kit goes up on Ebay for a very reasonable starting bid of $600.
I'm curious (don't have the money but what the hey) so I check on it every day.
It's not getting a lot of interest, so halfway through the seller increases the minimum bid to $800.
It doesn't sell.
It is then relisted for another week, starting bid now $800.
It's still not getting a lot of interest so with 2 days to go, the seller changes the minimum bid again.
This time to a nice round $1000 !
It doesn't sell.
So the seller relists it for a grand!!
It's on there now....
Wonder if it will sell ???

Wait until it gets to a quarter of a million dollars, then bid on it.

I've been watching that, too (hey, I might hit the lottery, right?)
and I admit to being confused by this price raising tactic.
If I couldn't or wouldn't bid on the item at $600,
(too much money for my budget or not perceived as a good value for the asking price)
why would the seller assume my budget or perception of value would go up with the increased starting bid?
That run of brass plated Sidkits (produced after his passing) sold for $900, if I remember correctly.
My suggestion would be that the seller list the Mal pistol for $800 to $1,000...
... and then keep it there until it sells.

Well put !! and I couldn't agree more.
Of course, to be fair to the seller we are not getting the whole picture, but still....

I was following one for a while. The price was a bit more reasonable, but it did not sell either.

I am keeping mine.
