Fleece Blanket coming ...

Postby keelhauler » Thu Jun 18, 2015 3:33 pm

This is actually alright. Of course, a prop would make me much happier. I think that ship has sailed (and sunk) when it comes to QMx, though

QMx, Toy Vault and the others are just spoon-feeding the fandom now. Sheep for the fleecing. The blanket is a metaphor.

I love the fracken donkey, so why are you pounding him with a bat?

Yeahhhh ... I took one look at that thing and thought to myself, "The Star Wars bedsheets and quilt set from the 1970s was way cooler."

And hard on that thought was, "[My original character in ANY of my Serenity campaigns] would have had something different. Something that looked like it really would have existed."

I supposed that's the difference between being a consumer and being a Verse Expansionist. Iconography isn't enough. Realism matters.

Would a blanket like that exist in the Verse? Probably. Marketed to kids in the Core who are caught up in the exploratory/settler adventure stuff they're fed in cartoons on Saturday morning. They'd eat it up with a spoon. People who actually live in space and or live as settlers would probably take that kind of merchandising in a less salutary light.

We on Ransom just laugh at the Core's choice of merchandise. We go for practical, useful stuff....like patches!

I would buy one of these, and cuddle up with a serenity plush, at a CSTS showing. (if there were one in my area.)

I just wish they would get around to making the 1/6 scale Mal figure (not the statue), they keep promising. If I had that, I could die happy....well less miserable.

A "real" blanket that folks like the crew of Serenity would use would probably look more like this:

or this:
