QMX metal Mal Pistol

Postby Badger » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:01 pm

This thread is for discussion of QMx's upcoming Metal Mal Pistol Replica.
I've now been authorized to discuss this project.
I would appreciate leaving 47A discussion to its own thread, this is simply not the place for it.

There is no official release date yet, but it will be sooner rather than later. I'm reluctant to give a precise date until we're certain it'll be ready and will be as good as it can be. Price is also something I can't get into as costs aren't finalized yet, so it would be a guess. I don't like to guess.

Andy and the team have been very busy with the metal Mal. As you can imagine and I can attest, it's a tough one to get right. QMx and I are pooling our resources.

I spent the week with Andy in LA discussing various upcoming projects we are collaborating on. Most of our time was spent talking about this prop, though.
Andy showed me files from his gunsmith of the very impressive armature/frame for the model. I am working closely with the gunsmith now to produce a new set of original master models from which to make the parts.
No information, parts, CAD models or castings from other Mal pistol replicas are used in the QMx pistol project.
The QMx Mal pistol is a completely fresh start.
I'm very excited to be involved with the project.

I've been tasked with quality control as well...
You know what I'm like with that

Do you know what type of metal it'll be made from or whether it'll have any moving parts?

But more importantly, did it have the correct style of trigger? ;)

Present plans, subject to change, are:
The body castings will be foundry brass, the grips wood. The frame material is as yet undecided, there's still prototyping and research being done.
It will have a working trigger and a moving hammer.

Yes TO, it will have the correct trigger :D

Don't need a specific date, but do you think it will be this year?

What sort of wood are they using for the grips?
May have been on the losin' side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I can't say for certain at this point.
I know we'd really like to.
