New Design & New Functions

Postby F-N-S » Fri Dec 24, 2010 3:37 pm

Hi,

over the last couple of days I created a new design for the board. If you want to test it go to the user control panel and change the style in the board preferences from "Acidtech Firefly" to "Fireflyprops". I tried to make a clearer design where all the important board functions and the most active forums are on the top and are visible without scrolling.
The board has a fixed width of 1100 ... there's really is no reason for that, I just thought that it looks good :-) I've added a poll to this thread to see what resolution you're running. It's of course still possible to change it.

I also added a couple features. It is now possible to attach files of any kind to a post. Picture will be shown as a thumbnail and open in a lightbox (new theme only at the moment).

This style eventually will become the new main style for the board but I will keep the old style for all who like that better.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Frank

Re: TEST

Hi Frank:

I still prefer the old layout, including the order of the topics.
Actually, especially the ordering of the topics.
Firefly episodes
BDM Serenity
Recurring Props
Non Canon
The other stuff

The old style puts everything of the index on my screen,
where the new style makes a left-right scroll bar,
I'm also made uncomfortable by the avatars appearing on the right,
which is opposite of every other site I visit.

So, does that mean I didn't pass the test?

Merry Christmas!
Mike

Changed the thread title and added some information and a poll!

Thanks,

Frank, my resolution is 1440 x 900. That's not on the list.

Nice work on the updates!

Frank, I like the changes. I really like the added feature of attachments.

I can get used to most of the changes, and really like some of them, but I REALLY prefer our avatar stuff on the left. I like knowing who's "speaking" without having to make the extra effort to look on the other side of the page.

Mine is 1280x1024 but my sidebar is always visible so that new design is too wide. I'd say a more fluid design would be ideal to allow for multiple sizes. When I design I try to assume that people aren't always viewing a site on a large LCD or with a maximized browser window.

My normal PC is 1280x1024, but almost equally I use my iPad at 1024x768, so the new design looks fine on PC but too wide on iPad. :geek:

Looking at the width, there's large borders at each side which could be removed/reduced, along with reducing the width of the column showing posting names/dates/times:
