Vektor shows up in 'The One' too. May even be the same one, since Firefly used the same prop house.

Armourer.
They used the same armourer.

Actually, I was thinking of the prop house. As in Neotek. So the connection is probably void anyway. Not being in the biz, I'm never sure how these things work.

OK,

'Prophouses' are prop rental houses. Usually they buy things and rent them out.
Sometimes they make props and rent them out too.

Neotek and Applied Effects aren't really prophouses as they don't rent stuff out. They make stuff to order for production companies. They don't own it, the production does.
These guys are Model shops or Effects shops.

Armourers own lots of guns and related stuff and rent it. They also provide on-set armourers and safety personnel.

The Vektor isn't changed in any way from the day it was made. It's a real world, live firing weapon. Neotek didn't make it or supply it.

Armourer, see? :)

Some companies are seriously trying to rule the world and encompass all of the above categories.
They usually aren't very nice to deal with.

Interesting subject. So, in the case of the Jason Statham/Saffron gun, would the effects house be supplied the live firing weapon by the armourers to add the greeblies and electronics (the hero had cycling lights in the end cap) before passing it to the production?

What happens when it goes back to the armourers, are they not concerned about significant mods like in the case of Vera?

If it's a live firing gun.... you can't just leave it with some Charlie at a model shop to stick lights on. It's a gun.

It must stay with an armourer at all times. So the work gets done at the armoury. Some armouries do so much custom stuff that they have their own specialist staff. Pieces may be made at a model shop, but the guns stay put.
They are never 'passed to production'. They arrive in a locked case with the armourer, on the shoot day. The actors never even hold a live firing weapon unless they are about to fire it. They are given earplugs (as is everyone else), the weapon is loaded with blanks (the exact number for the scene), is handed to the actor, camera turns, actor fires gun, 'cut' is called, armourer takes gun off actor.

Vera was sitting in the lockup at the armoury along with her sisters from 'Showtime'. The Armoury had been asked to produce a BFG for Jayne, a 'worldbeater'. Budget being what it was, they had to adapt something already existing in their stock. Hence the add-ons.

If the modifications were irreversible and permanent, the production would be sold the gun, as it would be useless for rental as what it originally was. A deal is done.

Most mods are bolt on, bolt off.

In the case of Vera, there were (I assume) still more than one of the base guns available after Showtime. Did Vera go back to the shop of fall to the production?

There were 6 Showtime guns.

Vera was acquired form the armourer direct, she was never the property of the production.

In case this is leading where I think it is....The armourer has since retired and sold the armoury and all it's stock to a large Hollywood concern who are attempting to rule the propworld.

It's unlikely anything more from that armoury will ever come to light. Very sad.

Wasn't really leading anywhere- just curious as to where Vera came from. I know the name of the armorer but haven't ever tried to contact them myself.

So... this concern just buys up prop stock and buries all competition?

It's the American way.

Competition is good, unless they compete with *you.*
May have been on the losin' side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.
