Alliance food bars

Episode 1 - Serenity

That is very cool. I had planned on doing one, but I don't have much talent for the more artistic stuff. I'll just stick to food.
May have been on the losin' side, still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Alliance food bars

Postby namebrand » Wed Sep 24, 2014 3:18 am

Forgot to post pics of my food bar that I finally added foil to for an exhibit I took part in in August. Seeing this topic reminded me so here are a couple of pics I have on my phone. Have a better one I can post later. Added copper foil to get closer to what's used in the episode, mine is too thick but it looks the part.

Very cool, micjwelch . Is it hollow? Cause, printing something the size of the original prop isn't going to be cheep, even if it is hollow, but it would be crazy expensive.

I was actually planning on offering this as a 3D model at some pint, only my plan was to just offer it as a face plate. You would print the face plate (the hardest part of the prop to replicate) then build the body of the prop out of a block of wood, or sheets of styrene, or whatever folks had handy, and wanted to use. I kind of put it on the back burner, after a run, or two, of casting from the original molds, were offered her on the boards.

Still, it's really nice to see someone did such a nice job, of replicating the prop for 3D printing, and thank you for offering it here.

Namebrand, it's nice to see one of the castings finished so nicely. The foil turned out really nicely, and adds a nice tough of realism to it.

You tell the 3d printer what to fill the model with. It's generally a honeycomb fill, which gives it strength without using a ton of plastic.

Btw - I just updated the files to include a two part mold.
