Let's find the correct binder for Inara's Companion papers

Postby Kurtyboy » Wed Jun 03, 2009 8:37 pm

I have looked at hundreds of binders/folders/pad holders/wallets etc. over the years. I still haven't found this one and would really like to finish this prop since I have most of the other parts.

It looks like a notepad holder. On the right sight you can make out the edge of a clear pocket into which you would insert the back cover of a flip-up notebook. Looks like a sheet of thin wood on both sides.

Scaled from the mini CD, the front cover would be approx. 237mm x 160mm (9.3" x 6.3").

Once we have the correct folder, the rest would be easy :)

Here's the Companion paper:

And Frank made this. They will both print at the right size (or close with my crude scaling!)

I just realised that the original is at Fireflyarchive.com so maybe there's some identifying mark on it? :)

FAQ this... I've looked at over 1,000 of these things tonight and I can't keep my eyes open any longer...

They seem to be known as conference folders, presentation folders, notepad folders etc.

I've seen some with the clear pocket on the right, the pen holder, a multitude of shapes and sizes of pockets on the left. But no bloody ciger :? I'll be seeing these things in my dreams now...

Maybe Badger can chime in with some info on the original. Are there any identifying marks on it?

None at all, I'm afraid.

It is certainly a found item though, no doubt.

The light coloured sheets each side aren't wood, they're card covered in cream/beige silk. The silk has an open grained texture which is why it looks like wood to the camera.
